Scientists estimate that there are some 20 – 25,000 polar bears left in the wild. The animals are listed as  â€threatened† by the US Department of the Interior under the Endangered Species Act, and are classified as “vulnerable†on the IUCN World Conservation Union’s Red List of Threatened Species.
