Photo by our contributing writer @giantmecha. . For these factories and slaughterhouses, this is their busiest day of the year – 45 MILLION turkeys are slaughtered for Thanksgiving. Try to wrap your mind around this number. Each one is a living being who can feel pain and stress as well as contentment and joy, but is fully denied even the basic dignity. . This is a holiday already historically rooted in violence towards indigenous people. Do we need to add to that with more violence towards other sentient beings? Of course not. It's time to deconstruct Thanksgiving and have it be a day of peace and love and a way of honoring those who suffered injustice by rejecting violence towards all.
