Factory farmed piglets spend around the first 3-4 weeks of their lives inside farrowing crates with their mothers, before being weaned (in the US, weaning can be done as early as 1-2 weeks). After weaning, the piglets are transferred to so-called ‘grower sheds’, which are often barren and have slatted or part-slatted flooring. They spend the rest of their short lives in these sheds until they reach the age of around 6 months, when they're sent to be slaughtered. Around 97% of pigs are factory farmed in the U.S. Don't be fooled into thinking that 'higher welfare' pigs are treated much better, they're all killed whilst very young and don't exactly live happy lives. One activist went inside a farm which boasted higher welfare standards, here's what he said- “The animals are kept in sickeningly cruel conditions, with not an ounce of straw to be seen anywhere – only bare, hard floors in dark over-crowded sheds.” Read the full article here – http://www.peta.org.uk/blog/photos-despair-pigs-uk-farm/ #veganism #vegan #animalrights #animallovers #animalcruelty #animals #animalliberation #govegan #whyloveonebuteattheother #petlover #pets #piglets #thesavemoment #macklemore A post shared by Toronto Pig Save ?
